What you can check on every carrier

Each carrier page is a one-page vetting record built from official FMCSA data: whether the operating authority is Authorized or Not Authorized (independent of the USDOT registration status), a vetting snapshot with the MCS-150 biennial update status and how long the company has been registered, the 24-month safety record with inspection counts, vehicle and driver out-of-service rates against the national averages, and crashes, the insurance on file with the insurer, coverage type, amount, and any pending cancellation, the fleet size cross-checked for filing errors, cargo carried, safety rating, and the listed company officers. The same page links to the carrier's own official SAFER snapshot so you can verify anything before acting on it.

How dotsearch.us differs from the official SAFER lookup

The FMCSA publishes everything here, but spreads it across three systems: the SAFER company snapshot for identity and fleet, the Licensing and Insurance system for authority and insurance filings, and the safety measurement system for inspections and crashes. dotsearch.us brings those onto a single page per carrier, cross-checks the fleet figures (the census contains filing errors such as two-driver companies recorded with millions of trucks, which we withhold rather than repeat), lets you search by phone, email, or officer name as well as by number, and ingests each FMCSA release within minutes of publication rather than on a monthly extract. It also tracks newly registered carriers daily. dotsearch.us is independent and not affiliated with the FMCSA; the official record always governs.

New trucking companies, updated daily

Carriers that received a USDOT number in the last 30 days, nationally and by state, from the FMCSA registration feed. A new USDOT number usually arrives weeks before operating authority and insurance, which makes these the right moment for factoring, insurance, compliance, and fuel-card providers to reach a new company, and the wrong moment to tender it freight. See the new trucking companies list.

Understanding the data

Active vs. Authorized. A USDOT status of Active means the carrier is registered; it says nothing about whether it may haul freight for hire. That requires Authorized operating authority, and a carrier can be Active but Not Authorized (private, exempt, newly registered, or revoked). MCS-150. Carriers must update this filing every two years; an overdue filing can lead the FMCSA to deactivate the USDOT number, so it is shown on every page. Safety ratings. Most carriers have never been rated; unrated is not the same as rated poorly, which is why the inspection and out-of-service history matters more. The methodology page documents every source and derivation, and the motor carrier statistics page publishes the national and state-level figures computed from the full dataset.
